From February 1-3, 2025, a group of architects from Southern Thailand embarked on a study trip to Penang, Malaysia, to explore and exchange ideas on architecture and urban development. The objective of this trip was to enhance their knowledge and inspiration in designing architecture that aligns with local contexts.
Penang is a city rich in cultural diversity and history, reflected in its architecture influenced by Chinese, Indian, Malay, and European styles. This makes it an appealing destination for designers and architects. During the trip, the group visited key sites such as George Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its colonial architecture and Sino-Portuguese houses. Additionally, they studied contemporary designs that harmonize with the city’s cultural landscape.
The participating architects gained inspiration from design approaches that integrate historical and modern elements, as well as urban conservation and development concepts that could be applied to architectural projects in Thailand. This trip served as a valuable opportunity for learning and networking among architects, contributing to the advancement of the architectural industry in Thailand.
